YOUNGWOOD, PA (January 8, 2021) – The Westmoreland-Fayette Workforce Investment Board (WFWIB) has selected Anna Filosemi to serve as its new Compliance Officer I. Filosemi will be directly assisting WFWIB Compliance Officer II/Equal Opportunity Officer Melissa Keys with monitoring vendors, sub-recipients, and WFWIB contractors to ensure the financial and programmatic compliance with Federal, State, and WFWIB regulations and policies.

A recent graduate from the California University of Pennsylvania (CalU) class of 2020, Filosemi will continue to pursue higher education of an MBA in Business Analytics while working with the WFWIB. She currently holds a bachelor’s degree in finance and marketing.

Filosemi was introduced to the WFWIB during her time as an Experience Works! PLUS Internship Program participant. The Experience Works! PLUS Internship Program is primarily funded by the PA Department of Labor & Industry’s State/Local Internship Program (SLIP) Grant. The program coordinates internship opportunities for 18-24-year-old youth enrolled in a post-secondary education institution to assist employers in implementing business improvements while providing valuable workforce experience to young people seeking a career opportunity. Filosemi participated in the program at a part-time level with the WFWIB as the Temporary Program Assist intern.

When asked about her experience as a WFWIB intern, Filosemi shared “I loved interning with the WFWIB. I was able to use both of my degrees at one job location as well as learn a lot about this industry.”

During Filosemi’s time as an intern, the WFWIB found the need to fill the vacant Compliance Officer I position. The career opportunity was publicly posted on the WFWIB’s social media accounts and PACareerLink.pa.gov. Filosemi quickly applied to the position having experience working closely with the current Compliance Officer II/Equal Opportunity Officer.

In her new role as Compliance Officer I, Anna Filosemi will analyze, review, and monitor various WFWIB approved activities and programs to confirm compliance with Federal and State Agencies. Her responsibilities will assist the WFWIB in ensuring that all necessary guidelines and laws are being followed to provide the highest quality of programs and activities possible.

“The Compliance Officer I position is also working with finance, marketing as well as accounting, which I have learned to love. I like that every day I get to work on something different and get to learn a lot,” said Filosemi.
